Bye, Meiosis

It is a sad day in Youtube land. Apparently Universal Music Group decided that “Hi, Meiosis”, my parody of Eminem’s “My Name Is” was not kosher.

I still feel like the fact that the song is a parody for educational purposes and does not cut into UMG’s revenue stream (in fact it probably increases it) all make it legal under Fair-Use. But I’m not ready to rock the boat quite yet for just a single video. If anybody has any legal insight I’d love to hear it.

Yeah, it’s a bummer that Youtube has made the video inaccesible in 235 countries (including the U.S. and New Zealand). But look on the bright side. There are still 11 countries where “Hi, Meiosis” is still available! So if you’re in Ukraine, Costa Rica, or Saint Martin – bump that ish.

UPDATE: For those of you with a Google machine, “Hi, Meiosis” can still be found in many nooks and crannies of the interwebs. Even in Albania!

Very Sad. I remember listening to this song for the first time during the last month of the Obama campaign in CO. I laughed so hard I was crying. It was brilliant. Granted, I was so exhausted I may have found Tyler Perry funny.

But this song was, and continues to be, truly a gem.

Here’s to hoping youtube recognizes what their missing.

When is your CD coming out on Itunes?

  2. Thanks for the love man. Hahaha re: Tyler Perry. We’ll see about iTunes. It’s a long road with a lot of legal hurdles.
